Elder Mill Covered Bridge

On Highway 15 south of Watkinsville, GA there is a covered bridge over Rose Creek called Elder Mill Covered Bridge.  This bridge was constructed in 1897 by Nathaniel Richardson.  The interior features the town lattice style.  It is 100 feet long and one of only a few bridges in Georgia that still carries traffic without the support of underlying steel beams. Originally the bridge could be found on Highway 441 spanning Calls Creek but was moved by covered wagon in 1924 when it was scheduled for replacement to widen the road.  Elder Mill was closed in 1941 and the bridge now stands only as a glimpse of bygone days.
