Walking, Sweet Potatoes, and Golf Carts
Have you joined a team yet or sponsored a participant in the MS Society Walks for 2009? It is a great cause that I participate in every year in support of my friend Trudy. This year some of my friends who I usually walk with couldn't make any of the organized events so we decided to host a walk of our own.

We gathered at my home on a Friday evening. We decided we needed a pre-race meal and we were very good. Not a bite of chocolate in sight. (And believe me, I looked.)

I had hoped that this tomato and dip would somehow have a chocolate taste or burst forth with chocolatey goodness when I bit into it, but it didn't.
On the brighter side, Roxie brought the beverages...or was that a space alien?

Then, we watched a beautiful sunset over the lake.

The next day we spent the morning at a local spa and and then relaxed by the outdoor fireplace all afternoon. The weather was beautiful. We decided to wait and walk the next day for two very good reasons. One is that the people who had massages at the spa were now noodles and deeply relaxed, and two, we still had some more pre-race meals to consume. Look at this refrigerator!

Our fearless chefs prepared roasted pork, cinnamon sweet potatoes, strawberry spinach salad, and cheese biscuits. It was delicious - even without the chocolate again.

Cinnamon sweet potatoes are a treat.

Although they may look like butterfly coccoons, the white things on top are really crunchy,
yummy sugared pecans. Dig around a little more and you will find strawberries, mushrooms,
and red onion. A salad treasure hunt...

See what I mean? Here they are right before they dove into the salad and dressing.

Cheese biscuits are savory two bite treats.

Finally, the next morning it was time to walk and I might add, ride. We attached our banner to our golf cart and headed out down the paths to a great spot for walking. Here are some of the weekend warriors.

True blue friends. Walking without an official Walk! We're walking and hoping for a cure!

No easy way to introduce this picture, but here goes.
So....on a much, much, much lighter side we came across this tree.
We decided it looked like a toilet. You have to admit, it does.

Sorry, no toilet paper.

It was time to go back home and pack up from a wonderful weekend of Southern food, friends, and hospitality. And, if you are looking for a great cause to support, I hope you will consider the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Walking or riding - it doesn't matter. Finding a cure for our friends and loved ones is what does matter.
