Movies under the Magnolias

We went to the Starlight Six Drive-in Theater on Moreland Avenue in Atlanta, GA. My kids had never been to a drive-in so we went to see Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian. It was a double feature with the new Star Trek movie.

Lots of other people had the same idea, but with six screens, it wasn't crowded at all.

We drove through the ticket booth. Attendants walked out to the car to get your money and then brought back the tickets. It costs $7.00 per adult for a double feature movie.

The driveway was lined with beautiful magnolia trees in full bloom. It was about 76 degrees with a slight breeze. A perfect night for the drive-in.

We picked out a spot in one of the many rows and parked the car in backwards. The kids sat in the back of our minivan while we sat in lawn chairs beside it. Others did the same thing and a few groups spread blankets on the ground.
I used a flash to get the picture of the kids in the van. They are now blind.

Remember these? Well, you don't need them anymore.

You tune in to the fm radio station shown at the bottom of the screen, such as 105.5 gigantically painted on the metal fence below this screen. I have to admit, I kinda miss those old crackly speakers. That's pure nostalgia because you sure couldn't hear very well out of them and I can remember as a young girl we would have to try out several parking places until we found a speaker that worked. Also, the speaker was heavy and clunky. If it was cold outside, we would have to try to roll up the window as far as possible to keep in the steamy warmth which, of course, fogged up the car. This is much better although you may want to take a boom box if you plan to sit outside your car. Note to self - my boom box takes "C" batteries, not the $12.00 worth of "D" batteries I purchased for this event.

Now, grab some snacks and enjoy the show.

We had a great time. If you are in the area, be sure to check out the Starlight Six Drive-in!
