Mystic Pizza

Mystic Pizza is a pizza place made famous by the Julia Roberts movie of the same name.  The restaurant is found in the small town of Mystic, Connecticut, an old whaling and fishing community.  Mystic, Connecticut is also home to Mystic Seaport, which is where we went first before getting our pizza.  So, here are a few quick pictures of Mystic Seaport before we get down to the important task of trying to figure out "just what's in that sauce."

Another gray and rainy day.  It made for a pleasant break from the heat but my pictures look a little gloomy.  It was actually a very beautiful and colorful place to visit, but my pictures don't exactly show that to its fullest extent.

The trees were huge and very old. You can imagine sailors of long ago standing under the same branches.

There were huge anchors everywhere and kids climbing on them everywhere and moms yelling "Hold still for a picture" everywhere.

This was my favorite fishing hut.

We enjoyed all the mast heads - inside and outside.  They had some great displays.

We had been to so many places that we began to wonder where in the world were we???  Guess what? There are more places yet to come!

Many people come to Mystic to see the historic boats.

Here is a view up the mast.

A close up view of the ropes.

This historic wooden whaling ship is dry docked for repairs.  It is HUGE.

I wish I could come up with something witty or interesting to say about this bird.  Truth is I don't even know what kind it is, but I did like the picture. Since I harbored his kin on my porch all spring, I guess he was paying me back with a pose.

Here is the inside of a cooper's shop.  A man was demonstrating how to make a barrel.

This was my favorite barrel but it wasn't for sale or else it would be in my possession now.  It was a cute little bucket with a whale tail.

And now, the moment you have been scrolling for...Mystic Pizza. We left Mystic Seaport and headed around the block and across the drawbridge to the town of Mystic. And then, we saw the sign...

There wasn't much of a wait although it was crowded. The kids were tired of posing and hungry for pizza, hence we have their rear views as they scramble to get in the door for pizza.

The walls are covered with movie memorabilia and the movie, Mystic Pizza, is looped 24/7.

Here it comes...the house specialty.

My opinion?  It was great pizza.  Their famous sauce really was unusually good and the crust was a nice "in-between" of crispy and bready.  Very tasty!

Try as I might, they didn't reveal any recipe secrets to me so I guess I will just have to go back one day!   I hope I get to go again soon.
