The World's Longest Yard Sale
Have you been to the World's Longest Yard Sale? We decided to go last Saturday. I had heard of it on TV for several years and had always wanted to go. We packed a picnic lunch, cleaned out the van to make room for all our purchases and drove north to Chattanooga in order to head south to Gadsden, Alabama. I figured I'd head north to Ohio next year (Not really. I'm not sure I want to drive 700 miles to bring home someone else's junk.)
Well, we got to Chattanooga.... (Here is the dashboard view of Lookout Mountain. Been there, done that.)

We stopped and filled up our tank of gas so we wouldn't run out when we got stuck in the "miles of bumper to bumper traffic" trolling the yard sales. We finally found the highway even without our trusty GPS. Then we made a left turn onto the route with great bargain hunting anticipation and found this....

and this...

Miles and miles of this...

Even the cows were heading the other way.

I'm not sure who is in charge of advertising for this event, but they neglected to mention that the yard sales are quite infrequent. I guess after you go 700 miles on the whole route, you would eventually find some stuff, but there were more yard sales in 1 square mile of suburbia than many miles of this!
Hey, this guy found some stuff somewhere!!! His truck is full. So we kept driving.

We figured that if this guy ever stopped we could just buy something out of his truck!

But he never stopped. Finally, we found a place. It wasn't really a yard sale, because this is a year-round antique store, but we didn't care. We had money burning holes in our pockets and no place to spend it.

What cracked me up was that there was actually a camera crew there interviewing people for TV. I wanted to tell them that the cows back there aren't buying their World's Longest Yard Sale hype and neither were we. I think a better claim to fame is that this is the world's longest road with no bathrooms!
When we got out of the car, we were greeted by the rusty pan table. (These artsy pictures are courtesy of my artsy daughter. She has a new shop on Etsy for her photography. Check it out!)

Next, we found some treasures indoors.

A deaf dog.

Happy chickens.

Then while looking amongst the books, it hit me.

We were not on the route of the Longest Yard Sale. We were apparently on...

It was obvious now. We must have taken a wrong turn on...

Next time I'm bringing the GPS!
