French Salad Dressing

Why did I make homemade French dressing tonight?  I guess I was nostalgic for those old elementary school days in the 1970's when you got a little shredded iceberg lettuce on your plastic lunch tray followed by a squirt of orange dressing.  We never had a choice of dressing.  The lunch ladies were on "autosquirt" I think.  We really never had a choice of anything at lunch. Heck, we didn't even have a choice of whom to sit with.  I always seemed to end up sitting by Jon who always wanted to gross us out by mixing all his food together at the end of the meal - pudding, fish, fries, salad, and milk  - so that he could take a daring bite while we all squealed in horror.

Nowadays, the kiddos do get choices of food but it is all prepackaged and frozen and the ladies just heat-n-serve. They don't have time to make 3 entrees, six vegetables, two desserts all from scratch plus the giant salad bar that they are required to offer now.   Where did all the freshly baked rolls and cookies go?  Where are the mounds of meatloaf and real chicken breasts with real bones in them? Where is the gigantic block of butter on the ketchup table?   I guess that's why I thought it would be fun to make some squirty orange dressing.  And no, you don't get a choice whether you want to eat it or not. It's on your plate.  Just eat it.

French Dressing

1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup salad oil
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup chopped onion

Place all ingredients into a blender or food processor.  Blend on high until mixture is smooth.  Place in a jar (or squirty bottle) and refrigerate.

Step 1:  Measure

Step 2:

Step 3:
