Dauset Trails Nature Center

The animal attached to this beautiful tail lives at Dauset Trails Nature Center.

Near Jackson, Georgia, Dauset Trails has farm animals and wild animals on exhibit in a natural setting.

There were quite a few owls.

The animals were in large cages and the blurriness in the photos is due to my inability to get my lens through the links in the chain link fences.  I zoomed in as best I could.  The owls weren't too crazy about me being even as close as I was and hissed at me.  I didn't want to disturb them any more than I already seemed to be so I snapped a few photos and moved on.

There were larger animals, too.  I took a few pictures but there were many more animals there.

Dauset Trails is free although they accept donations to help with the care and upkeep of the animals and facilties.  The animals look pretty forlorn in the pictures and you tend to feel a little sorry for them, but knowing that they are all injured or orphaned animals that cannot be released into the wild makes it a little better.  Dauset Trails is a reprieve from becoming part of another animal's food chain.

I liked the ponds and turtles.  No sadness, just serenity.

To get to Dauset Trails, take Georgia Interstate Highway 75 South to Exit 198.  You will pass High Falls State Park which I will be showing you next time!
