Carlos Museum at Emory University

Did you know there is a great antiquities museum at Emory University in Atlanta?  It is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. We have been several times and we hope to go several more times!

You start out with Greek and Roman art and then head up a ramp to the Egyptian mummy collection.

You can imagine someone working meticulously on this sarcophagus.  The detail is amazing.

This guy is authentic and a little too casual for me.

I love the jewelry and household items.  I could have taken hundreds of pictures.

There was also Mayan art.  Wouldn’t you love to have a Crab bowl? with mutated feet handles? and a mouth with teeth?

These were teeny tiny beads.  I would have given up long before the details of this mask were finished.  A little too intricate for my craft skills!

We had a great time.  Now, I want to find some historical fiction to read.  I’ve got the visuals to go with the story!

They let you take photos as long as you don’t use flash. This is the only museum I have been to where you can see mummies up close and personal!
