Christmas 2013

Christmas 2013

Christmas 2013 has come and gone.  I thought I’d share a few photos of the day.

I didn’t decorate as much as I usually do because of the new puppy and Olivia having her wisdom teeth out.  I didn’t  have as much time as it takes and I didn’t know how much the dog would undecorate after I decorated.  Here is one of the four trees I did put up this year.  It is in the dining room and features a doll from Olivia’s collection from when she was younger,  “Miss Lollipop.”

This next tree is my cardinal tree.  It features ornaments of cardinals I have collected over the years as well as ornaments I have received from my Eating Cardinal gift exchanges.

This tree is especially pretty at night when it reflects in the three windows behind it.

We start the morning with gifts and then have breakfast. Olivia’s puppy helped her open her gifts.

One of our favorite breakfast treats is coconut toast.

Coconut Toast

1 cup flaked coconut

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter, melted

1 egg,, beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

12 slices white bread ( I use Publix White Mountain Bread)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a bowl, combine all ingredients; mix well.  Spread over each slice of bread.  Place on ungreased baking sheet.  Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until peaks of coconut are lightly browned.

Back to the gifts. This time with Steve and his family.

Davis joined in the “Kilt Club” with his new kilt.  This is the modern Kerr hunting plaid.

Then, we had dinner of ham, tofurkey (yes, really), potato salad, orzo salad, pasta salad, baked beans, bread and desserts.  We like to have salads so we can pull them out and eat whenever we are ready after the gift exchange.  That way no one is in the kitchen trying to get all the meal prepared at the same time.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas!
