Cotton Pickin' Fair

Cotton Pickin’ Fair

We ventured down to Gay, GA for our semi-annual visit to the Cotton Pickin’ Fair.  It is truly one of my favorite festivals around here. z7

We arrived at 8:05 and I highly recommend that if you go, you do the same.  Less traffic and better selection of purchases.  It is a very popular festival and people buy a lot.

When we arrived early, there weren’t many people there so you can see the grounds.  It is an old cotton plantation and all the outbuildings. This one is my favorite because of the colors.

The trees are tall and stately.

There are booths with crafts but also booths with antiques and then of course the ever present food vendors.

We were greeted upon entering with the happy strains of bluegrass music.    I don’t often listen to bluegrass but here it just sets the tone for a fun day.

I bought a few treasures and will show them to you as I unpack and use them.  I don’t have pictures of them now and most booth owners don’t want you photographing their wares.  I did, however, photograph my fried green tomato sandwich for lunch.

We sat and ate under the trees in 70 degree weather.  PERRRRFECT!

We bought some Lizzie’s cheese straws in this building. The creators of this tasty treat have been featured in southern cooking magazines and are originally from Alabama.  It was her grandmother’s recipe.

We got Davis and Olivia some prizes, too.  They each got a jar of Mickle’s Pickles and then Olivia got a coffee bean bracelet and Davis got a new hat.  What do you think?

We headed back home so I could attend a bridal shower for my friend Nancy’s son’s fiancée.  Pictures of that next!
