Kale Chips

Kale Chips

You know you need to eat your “superfood” greens, but if you prefer to eat a potato chip rather than a kale chip, then read on.

As I mentioned earlier, we are trying to eat more vegetables around here so that takes us out of our culinary comfort zone once in a while.  Kale is not right up there on my list of favorite foods but it is really good for you.  I tried kale chips from a healthful eating workshop and was really impressed with the flavor and texture of baked kale chips.

You will notice that I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill ( or is that a tower out of kale chips) with this post because kale chips are sooo easy to make and my post would be two sentences long if I didn’t.  However, since you have journeyed here, I thought I would give you some entertaining photos to keep you here.

If you have decided that kale is for you because I have been so dang convincing, I will now guide you in the steps of Kale Chips 101 – The Basic Recipe.  I will give other recipes for kale chips later but we are taking baby steps into better nutrition here.

Kale Chips

  • 1 bunch organic kale
  • olive oil
  • salt, if desired
Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Rinse the kale in cool water.  Cut the stems from the kale.  Arrange the kale on baking sheets. Lightly drizzle with olive oil and salt, if desired. Toss the kale lightly to disperse the oil.  Bake for about an hour or until kale is crispy.  (ha ha, I just spelled crispy with a ‘k’ as in Krispie Kreme Doughnuts!!! You can tell where my mind is going!)
I’m rinsing.
I’m cutting.
I’m done cutting.
I’m arranging.
I’m baking. The kale is shrinking.
I’m serving.
We’re eating.  Uhhh, Olivia you have a little something on your teeth.
 Okay, I went too far.
