I made a quick easy cute inexpensive 99% successful set of notepads this week.
I like making crafts but I also don’t like having to buy expensive supplies because as I have already mentioned, I pretty much make anything once and don’t make it again. I don’t like to have a bunch of leftover materials. I saw this as a tutorial from the talented Sea Lemon on the internet and it fit my craft criteria so I was in. I changed mine ever so slightly from her tutorial to make it cheaper and easier for me based upon the supplies I had.
Now, I don’t necessarily need to be reminded to pick up my child after a weekend away at his Thespian conference but I couldn’t think of anything else to write! Soon, I’m sure, I will be writing many a note for shopping lists or other reminders. Consider this a demo.
Step 1 Cut 8 1/2 X 11 paper into fourths. I used a rotary cutter.
Step 2: While you are cutting, open the box carefully and remove the edges of the box.
Step 3: Get some glue ready. Most any kind will do. This is not a tear away pad type book. This is an open and use and keep the pages in there kind of book.
Step 4: Clamp the pages and then glue the clamped edge. I put on three coats of glue allowing to dry between coats.
Step 4: Mark a line 1/8 inch on either side of the spine and score it to bend.
Step 5: When the paper spine is dry, use hot glue to attach the paper to the cover.
Step 6: Use a steady hand and a scant amount of Elmer’s Glue to glue the 1/8 inch edge of the cover to the top and bottom sheet of paper. This helps keep the book in the spine and looks better when you open the book.
Step 7: Here’s my 99% success rate. Sea Lemon says to cut the protruding part of the paper off with a utility knife and ruler. I found that I couldn’t keep my edges straight while cutting. If I were to do this again, I would probably just cut the paper to the exact size and skip this step or take my paper to Staples and ask them to cut it for me if I were making several notebooks.
Step 8: Write a note!!
