Red Orbs and Southern Ghosts

Red Orbs and Southern Ghosts

I constantly look online at houses for sale in my area, particularly old houses in need of some TLC.  I would someday love to move into a money pit house and refurbish it.  Probably won’t happen, but it is always in the back of my mind.  Recently I found a structure for sale in Griffin, GA and took a trip down to see it before some developer scoops it up and turns it into office buildings, ugh!

This gorgeous building is for sale for $10,000.  No, that is not a misprint.  It is only $10,000 and needs lots of work.  It is on the Historical Registry so all the work has to be approved and the future use plan must also be approved.

Originally this was the town hospital and nurse dormitory built in 1910.  The architect was Harralson Bleakley who also designed the Griffin City Hall. It was later a funeral home and renamed Haisten’s Building.  A few flowers brighten the grounds of the otherwise derelict house.

The outside was recently paintedby volunteers from the Historical Preservation Society and from The Home Depot, but Inside the building is practically gutted.

It would be a HUGE undertaking for someone to bring life back to this place.

And speaking of life, I decided to examine my pictures when I got home for signs of life, specifically signs of supernatural life.  Dare I say ghosts???  I figured this would be a very ghostly building if there ever was one since it was a hospital and probably a few people died there not to mention the fact that it was a funeral home, so I was interested to see what I could find.

****Disclaimer.  I don’t really believe in ghosts.  I do believe that we have souls and that the Bible tells us that there are angels among us, Hebrews 13:2, but I’m still not so sure of the whole Ghostbusters thing with friendly or creepy beings ready to attack us or cause mayhem.  I do however keep an open mind and a jolly curiosity as I look for evidence of supernatural inhabitants of our space.

I took pictures focusing on windows and side views to see if I could see anything later as I searched for evidence.  “They” always say you can see ghosts in photos even if you didn’t see them in person.

No luck here.

I was able to turn my mom into a ghost through the “magic” of photoshopping. Now you see her….

Now you don’t…ha ha!

But then…..Look again at the roof line of the last photo!!!   A red orb!!!! Could this really be evidence of a ghost??

Then I moved to the back of the house and saw the SAME ORB!!!  Was it following me?

Are you getting goosebumps? Have I finally joined the ranks of the “I saw a ghost once” club??

I got home and did a little research. Red orbs signify protector ghosts. That makes sense since this was a hospital and doctors and nurses would try to protect and heal those within.  I was getting more and more excited. I couldn’t wait to show my photos and start making up my ghost story, with a few embellishments of course.

Then I came to a website called Ghost Village.  I clicked on the ghost photography page.  If you are getting goosebumps you can rub them away. According to Robin Van Pelt, Ghost Photographer and Paranormal Expert, the octagonal orbs are the shape of your camera aperture as it takes a photo in the sunlight.  REALLY??? Can my story be disproved so quickly??? Couldn’t I even go to one party and regale everyone with my discovery of the haunted hospital???

So, unfortunately no ghost sightings today.  Just a beautiful house in need of an owner who will love it and restore it for future generations to enjoy.  Anyone out there willing to save some history?

I think you should buy it and make it a bed and breakfast for now and an Eating Cardinals compound in e future!

Do you think anyone would stay in the Haunted Hospital? Some people find that to be a tourist attraction, though, to get to stay in haunted hotels. There is supposedly a haunted hotel you can stay at in Warm Springs, GA. Any takers?
