The Nut Bowl and Risk

The Nut Bowl and Risk

Several months ago I went with the Eating Cardinals to make pottery for a girl’s night out.  We went to Wired & Fired in Atlanta.  We had a great time and each of us made a work of art.  I wanted a good dip bowl for some hummus and fresh vegetables.  You can see the fuzzy inspiration photo from my phone.

We had a great evening laughing, chatting, and painting. Here is my finished bowl with some great treats for our game night – candied pecans.

Last night we played Star Wars Risk (and played and played and played — that game lasts forever!)

Olivia finally won the game last night but I think we all won because we had some elegant treats in my new bowl.

A menacing attack from Davis!

Candied Pecans

  • 1 large egg white
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg*
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon*
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger*
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped dried cranberries
  • 2 cups pecan halves
Preheat oven to 300°F. Brush a large baking sheet with butter.

Whisk egg white in a small  bowl until foamy. Add sugar, spices*, and salt. (*Adjust amounts of all spices to your preference.)  Whisk until mixture is thick and opaque. Add cranberries and pecans; stir until coated. Using forks, transfer nuts to sheet, spacing apart; discard remaining coating.

Bake nuts until deep golden brown, about 30 minutes. Cool completely on baking sheet.

Love, love, love your bowl Julie! It brought back great memories of our night out at Wired and Fired! Can’t wait to try the candied pecans too! Thanks for bringing Frankly Southern back.
