This and That

This and That

Okay…..where have I been?  I haven’t posted anything in weeks!    Mostly I’ve just been hanging around doing the usual — cooking, cleaning, and working. Same old. Same old.  If you look at my posts I haven’t been a consistent blogger here since January 24.  Why does that date stick in my mind? Mostly because I was blog hopping that very day and found a very slick and gorgeous blog that is wildly popular and she was thanking all her THOUSANDS of visitors (5000+ to be exact) each month and she had just started the blog two years ago.  I hopped around a few more blogs and saw many other  gorgeous blogs with thousands of followers and I admit I got a little bit of blog envy.

I know it’s crazy and a little embarrassing to admit but it’s the truth.  Upon personal introspection I realized that I like to do things well and when I put effort into something, it is bothersome when it isn’t comparable to others.  I’m not wealthy.  I’m not famous. I’m not particularly skilled at anything.  For these reasons my blog serves as a personal account of my jack-of-all-trades life. I was certainly okay with my life before seeing these particular trendy blogs so I’m going to stop the comparisons and appreciate what I have and do.  I will say that I enjoy blogging very much so with or without the standard measure of success for blogs, I will continue with mine. Enough said.

Here is my top 5 activities from the last few weeks.  Yesterday, I spent the day with my school’s Science Olympiad team. I am the coach.  These kids are precious and smart, smart, smart.   Makes the coaching job easy with these dedicated students and their wonderful parents.  Here is a team huddle.

We won first place in the county competition and will now go to the state competition in May.  Looking forward to it!

My number two exciting event has been the life changing purchase of a pressure washer!  Who knew that $150.00 could bring such cleaning ecstasy.  Now, don’t get me wrong, it is VERY time consuming to wash your entire driveway in strips of one inch at a time, however the results are very satisfying.  You can also practice your cursive in the before and after.

We have had soooo much rain that the concrete areas of the house are almost black with mold, crud, and who knows what else.  Look at the side-by-side.

Below is a photo of the driveway as a work in progress.  It took many many hours to finish this job but what a difference.

Number three excitement around here is the visits I have had from 3 bats in my screened porch.  They are cute but not what I want tangled in my hair as I pass through the porch. I left the door open to the outside overnight and they finally did leave after several days.  Then, I made a fire in the fireplace in case they have been hanging in there upside down.  A little friendly smoke to make them scram!

Number four excitement is shopping.  We have some great outlet malls around here.  My new favorite has a Ghirardelli chocolate shop in it.  Their hot chocolate is the best and it’s a great place to take a break before heading to more stores.  As you can see from our bags, we found some absolute necessities that just had to come home with us.

And finally, my biggest excitement was my trip to Disney with my fab Eating Cardinal friends.  We have been planning this trip for a while and it was a perfect weekend outing.  There are always a lot of laughs and treasured memories with this group.

First day was Magic Kingdom and second day was Epcot in black. Janet just couldn’t get the kick line going.  Actually, we had just done a Heisman trophy pose but neglected to tell her that this was a normal pose.  Put your leg down Janet!  🙂Disney

My blog is now officially caught up and ready to roll.  As Mickey Mouse would say…See ya real soon!
