Doggie Loaf

Doggie Loaf

We have the pickiest eating dog on the planet. I do believe he would starve himself rather than eat something he doesn’t want which includes all canned dog foods and 99% of the known kibble brands in every store within a 100 mile radius.

Every day I’m like a crazy personal dog chef trying to find something he will eat. I add sauces, eggs, meats, cheeses to his doggie fare, but he doesn’t like much of anything except $15 a pound salmon or $10 a pound roast from our plates.

I’ve been seeing a recipe on Pinterest for a homemade dog loaf so I tried it today.

Doggie Loaf

1 pound ground turkey

2 raw eggs

1/2 cup oatmeal

1 cup mixed peas and carrots (I used frozen)

3 hard-boiled eggs

Mix together all ingredients except hard-boiled eggs.  Place half of the mixture in a loaf pan.  Place eggs down one side of the loaf.  Cover with remaining turkey mixture.  Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Since all of the ingredients are either fresh out of my refrigerator or from the human pantry, I figured that if he didn’t eat it, I would eat it for lunch!

Cover the eggs with the remaining turkey mix and bake.  All done!

Should I add a sprig of parsley?

The verdict?  He did eat the turkey loaf after a slow start of pushing out the kibble I tried to mix in with it. Notice it on the floor by his dish.

And then just like humans after a good turkey dinner at Thanksgiving, he took a nap in the sun.  I guess I should have unbuckled his harness like a grandpa loosening his belt when he takes his nap, too.

Yay!  One successful meal Chupa likes.

That sure looks like a nice rug for a dog dish or did you put it there for staging purposes. LOL. I love your blogs.

No staging. It is not an expensive rug. It is the one I have in the kitchen and has seen many spills in 10 years. It is very forgiving with my messy household. I don’t remember where I got it. Probably at Target or KMart. Now if he had been eating on the living room rug, that would be another story!!! He would be subjected to dry kibble for the rest of his life if he messed up that rug.
