We took a day trip to the town of Juliette, GA where the movie Fried Green Tomatoes was filmed in 1991. Juliette was one of several filming locations for the movie, specifically the church and the now famous restaurant. Other locations such as the house, nursing home and hilarious Winn Dixie parking lot scene were filmed near me, too.
Here is a photo from the movie and then one from my visit yesterday.
Not much has changed from the movie set.
The bank is a beautiful brick building beside these wooden ones. All of them are now gift shops and souvenir stands.
The church is up the hill on Juliette Road. Pass the restaurant and keep going! It is on the left in about a mile.
For lunch we started off with Fried Green Tomatoes, of course.
They are indeed green. Crispy and delicious! They are the best thing on the menu.
My lunch was fried chicken, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese, and cornbread.
We didn’t pass up dessert. I opted for the chocolate fudge cake.
While you eat, you can explore the inside.
With the exception of my mother, the restaurant interior looks much the same as the movie.
The center counter is still a place for customers to gather and be served.
The same as in the movie. We sat to the right of where the lady in blue is standing.
The front porch is a great place to relax in the beautiful Georgia weather.
The stars of the movie thought so, too.
Searching the internet I found this iconic photo from the movie. I’m ready to watch it all over again!
After lunch my mom, Diane, and I went shopping to end a fun afternoon! Back to the real world after a day on set!
I want some more fried green tomatoes!
THis looks so yummy. I’m makinf it tonight but with ground Turkey. I can’t wait.
