Smoothie Bowl and a Cross-Body Purse

Smoothie Bowl and a Cross-Body Purse

Today is the last day of my winter vacation from school.  We got a week off this year  (sometimes it is just a day or two) and then we get another week off in April for spring break. It basically just prolongs the school year because we go 190 days regardless, but it sure is nice during the year to have a vacation when you are not close to the summer break.

So here I am today:

But this will be me on Monday.

This morning I made my first ever smoothie bowl.  I see them all over the internet so I thought I’d try.  I blended 1 cup of blueberries, 1/2 cup strawberries, 4 ice cubes, and about 1 cup of Simply Lemonade (maybe a little more).  I ate/drank it with more berries and some vanilla yogurt.  It was very nice but probably not something I’ll have time for on a school day unless I get up earlier which I won’t be doing.

I have been enjoying this warm weather we’re having.  Lots of trees, flowers, and shrubs are in bloom.  It’s crazy weather for February but it couldn’t have happened on a better week.

Yesterday, I finished a purse from some cloth I wove in class.  The purse is pretty basic because I’m not the greatest seamstress.  In fact, I’m not a seamstress at all, just a straight line sewer (not a poop sewer), but it was pretty easy.  Time-consuming because I didn’t have a pattern, but easy.  I added some beads and now I’m ready to toss in some keys and some cash and get out shopping.

Some of the threads I used in the  purse were also hand-spun by me so I have also been spinning some more to get ready for next week’s weaving class.  I’m not at all good at spinning but I know it takes practice.  I’m using  Black Faced Leicester wool…

…and it was cleaned, combed, dyed, and named “Oooh, La La Tropical.”

So now on Monday when I go back to work and everyone asks me if I went anywhere for the break (which I didn’t), I can tell them I was spinning in the tropics.  It will make my life seem a little more exotic.
